Millions of people in the UK suffer from either obesity or being overweight, and it’s quickly becoming a nationwide epidemic. Even for people who aren’t generally seen as overweight, they often still possess a negative body image bought on from the face they think they’re ‘too fat’. Whether it be home life, work life or social life, all parts of a persons life can be negatively affected by a bad self-image.

As you can imagine therefore, every single year a new dietary craze will introduce itself, only to be used for a couple of weeks and then dropped by the majority of people.

It’s not easy to lose weight and although we all know the keys are diet and exercise, without a dedicated personal trainer it can be extremely difficult to know if you’re doing the right things or not. As a result, any failure in losing weight is attributed to the diet and its subsequently dropped, creating a pattern of behaviour in most people.

It’s been suggested however that there’s an easier way for people to lose weight, particularly around the stomach, thighs and buttocks. A recent study at the University of Antwerp investigated the affects of vibration training on personal weight loss; they divided one group of people into three smaller groups. All three groups were given in-depth dietary advice, the first was then told to do no exercise, the second told to perform an aerobic activity (swimming, running, etc) and the third were instructed to use vibration machines for 13 minutes a day, five days a week.

After six months, the first group lost 6% of their body fat, the aerobic group lost 7% and the vibration machine group lost an impressive 11% of body fat. The vibration exercise group also lot nearly two-thirds more abdominal fat than the aerobic group, with the diet only group seeing only a negligent drop in their abdominal fat.

Vibration fitness could well be seen as an excellent tool for those that struggle with diet and excercise regimes, and are looking for a low-impact, convenient form of weight loss. There are several other key benefits to vibration training apart from weight loss, including cellulite reduction, increased strength, flexibility and bone density, improved circulation and a reduction in recovery time after injuries.
